ABOUT THE CLUB

TRAINING COSTS & MEMBERSHIP

For the first four weeks of training and to give new students time to decide whether they are enjoying their classes and wish to continue their training by officially joining Fighting Fit the training costs are as follows:-

£4.00 per session for juniors (up to the age of 14).

£5.00 per session for adults (aged 14 and over).

After four weeks of training we ask students to pay monthly.  This ensures that your space at the club is kept available for you and also saves on administration and queuing times at the beginning of each lesson.  There is no direct debit required (although this can be arranged if you find it easier).  It is simply paying cash or cheque on a set day of each month.  Costs are as follows:-

FOR JUNIORS (aged under 14 years) :-

£20.00 per month to train for one lesson per week, or

£25.00 per month to train more than one lesson per week. (This can include up to nine sessions per week!)

FOR ADULTS (aged 14 years and over) :-

£25.00 per month to train for one lesson per week, or

£30.00 per month to train more than one lesson per week. (This can include up to four lessons per week).

INSURANCE / MEMBERSHIP :-

Every student is required to have their own Public Liability Insurance to protect themselves and others in the event of injury, damage, etc.  This insurance is provided through Fighting Fit's own insurance company and includes full membership to Fighting Fit.  The insurance premium is payable after four training lessons.

Junior Insurance (renewable annually) - £25.00

Adult Insurance (renewable annually) - £30.00

Adult White Tiger Martial Arts - (Tae-Kwon-Do) aged 14 and up

How We Developed.

For the past twenty years Billy Wappett has studied the Korean Martial Art of Tae-Kwon-Do, initially under W.T.F. (World Tae-Kwon-Do Federation) and I.T.F. (International Tae-Kwon-Do Federation) but felt that both systems were missing various defences at different distances. To compliment each style, Billy added various techniques to "fill the gaps" as it were. This has been for him a long-term project which remains open to even more techniques.

"Fighting Fit" now concentrates on ensuring that the White Tiger Martial Art of Tae-Kwon-Do is a devastatingly effective self-defence system using no-nonsense techniques.

Competitions

External competitions are not high on our list of priorities but we are planning to look at about four of the best run competitions in the country per year to give those of our students who require it an outlet and goal.

Who Do We Teach?

We teach White Tiger Martial Arts (Tae-Kwon-Do) to both males and females (aged four years upwards*) of all sizes and fitness levels.

* We allow their younger brothers and sisters aged under 4 to train alongside their old brothers and sisters provided at least one parent/guardian is in attendance.

We teach three classes on each training night; one for beginner children, one for senior grade children and one for Adults (aged 14 and above). Some senior grade children are invited to attend the adult classes to work on special techniques.

Children's Tae-Kwon-Do 2000+

We at "Fighting Fit" understand that children are not "mini-adults" and therefore have developed a system totally designed to help children gain the best results. All children are different when it comes to concentration spans, fitness and ability levels, size (height and weight), mental ability and aims in their young lives. This is where the vast years of knowledge and advice from other experts gives us the opportunity to gain the most from children. Our system is built around their home and school lives; we encourage them to do well at school and behave at home to enhance their whole lives. Morals, ethics, discipline and manners are just a few of our main teaching points. The other things we teach, such as overall fitness, are also extremely beneficial. A fit body combined with coordination and self-defence knowledge may help the children overcome situations where everything they have learned elsewhere may not work.

Our lessons are filled with games and fun which enable children to build friendships with others. The hard work needed to be done to complete the "Fighting Fit" system is thus disguised.

BLACK TIGER MARTIAL ARTS KICKBOXING

How We Developed

Similar to how the Tae-Kwon-Do developed; Billy felt there was still something missing so he and his brother Stephen, who practiced boxing, decided to add Western boxing into their martial arts system and came up with an excellent kickboxing system. Together they ran and competed in some very successful kickboxing shows from as far back as 1983.

From that date to this they have continuously added new techniques, including the introduction of weapons, throws, take-downs and groundwork. As a result of all these years of improvement Fighting Fit have now registered this system as a martial art under the title of Black Tiger Martial Arts.

The syllabus follows our Tae-Kwon-Do one quite closely but with more emphasis on the exercise side, providing an absolutely superb all-round fitness system.

Multi-Style Martial Arts

This was developed by "Fighting Fit" as a third syllabus and was taught in addition to both the Tae-Kwon-Do and the Kickboxing. However, during 2002 we have combined our Multi-Style Martial Art to both the systems mentioned above, at the same time giving our Tae-Kwon-Do and Kickboxing their new titles of White Tiger Martial Arts and Black Tiger Martial Arts.

We have taken the best and most effective techniques from a range of other styles including Karate, Thai-Boxing, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, Western Boxing, street self-defence and various weapons systems and incorporated them into our syllabus ensuring that all our students learn only the best and most devastingly effective fighting systems around.

SELF-DEFENCE

Although all of our martial arts systems are taught for self-defence, we run short courses which concentrate on close-quarter self-defence techniques that are simple, practical yet extremely effective. We teach no-nonsense techniques enabling you to deal with any situation.

We run courses for our own existing students who study any of our systems or we run external courses for groups of ladies who have a desire to learn an effective self-defence system.

The duration of the courses we offer can vary considerably to suit individual groups; anything from a couple of hours onwards. We can add refresher courses as and when required too.

We have in the past taught self-defence to groups of Girl Guides, school groups, battered wives associations, work groups and many others.

If you wish us to run a course for you then get a group of ladies together and we will run a course especially for you. We have a superb team of instructors, lady instructors are usually present and a team of senior male instructors to practice on if you wish!

Do it now - it could well save your life!

LITTLE WHITE TIGER MARTIAL ARTS FOR CHILDREN

Fighting Fit has specially adapted lessons for children aged from about 4 years and up and has been teaching these in Bury St Edmunds and Thetford for twenty-five years.

We are now having the best kind of feedback in that some of the children we taught many years ago are now bringing their own children to us!

Our youngsters are taught not just Tae-Kwon-Do - they learn how to be more confident, work as a team, how to lead a fit and healthy lifestyle and how to defend themselves against bullies.  They make lots of friends and their fitness levels are greatly improved.

In addition to the Tae-Kwon-Do techniques, the children can take part in soft weapons, wrestling, an excellent Merit Badge system including reading and mathematics badges, First Aid and Child Protection and lots, lots more.

Beginners should just come along in tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt.  No footwear is needed indoors (although in the summer months we have the opportunity to train outside on the field so trainers are advisable then) and they need to bring a drink.  Parents are more than welcome to spectate throughout the lesson if they prefer can drop their child off in the training hall and collect them at the end.
